It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Annie Patricia Curtis on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at the Mitchell Nursing Home, at the age of 92. Born in Guelph, she was the daughter of the late William J. Gibson and Jessie B. Gibson (Hammond). She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Curtis (1999) for 50 years and was predeceased by a son, William Curtis (2014), and by her four brothers and four sisters.

Annie is survived by four children, daughter Joan Restall and husband Cyril of Stratford, sons Thomas Curtis and Steven Curtis of Stratford, and Bruce Curtis and wife Patricia Ferries of London; five grand-daughters Krista Van Nes, Katie and Maggie Curtis, Michelle Restall, and Alison Curtis; three great grandchildren, Djordy, Theo, and Jaynie Van Nes; and, by many nieces and nephews and their families.

As a young woman just after the Second World War, she worked in the textile industry in Stratford and met her future husband, Robert Curtis, a weaver who also worked in the textile industry after serving with the Essex Scottish Regiment overseas. The two were married in 1948 and subsequently built a home along the Avon River and raised their five children there. For many years as a homemaker she dedicated herself to looking after her family and her home, both of which she was most proud, and she was an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for many years.

A private family service will be held at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home (Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services) with Rev. Andrew Reid officiating, and interment will follow in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Ontario. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada ( or the West Perth Village Seniors’ Community Building Fund through Ritz Lutheran Villa ( directly, or through the funeral home by calling 519-271-5062.

I am sorry to hear of Annie's passing. I visited Annie regularly at Mitchell Nursing Home as a volunteer, we had many lovely chats. I have not been able to be there since covid-19 has kept me away, so it is sadder that I have not seen her in a while. She really loved her family, keep your memories close.
