George Ernest Taylor, 80, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, on Thursday, June 20, 2019, with family by his side, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Stratford on February 15, 1939 to the late Robinson and Viola (McKone) Taylor. Beloved husband of Eileen (Smart) Taylor for 61 years, whom he married in Stratford on February 8, 1958. Proud and loving father of son Don (Sybil) and daughter Sue (Joe) Lanza. He was loved and will be greatly missed by grandchildren Alicia (Luis), Joey (Merethe) and Sarah (Sam) Seddon. Great grandfather of Benjamin and Hannah Lanza and Katie and Riley Seddon.

He is survived by brothers Bob (Jean, deceased and Beatrice, deceased) of Waterloo and Earl (Mary, deceased) of London and sister Fern (Tom) Leier of St. Marys. Predeceased by sons George (1980), Alexander (Sandy)(1965), brothers Bill (Phyllis), Frank, Dave, Jack and Alvin, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Finley, Janet Smart, and his sister-in-law Mary (Clayton) Tabor. Survived by sisters-in-law Ruby, Pauline, Linda and Joan. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

George was employed at the Board of Works, Stratford, for 10 years following which he was owner/operator at Radio Cab for 26 years before retiring in 2001. In the summer, George enjoyed the Tuesday get-togethers with the Taylor clan for golf and a cool one at the Army and Navy and the annual Taylor reunion. Winters meant southern vacations and Friday lunches at the Army and Navy, again with family.

Thank you to the medical teams at Victoria Hospital for their compassion and excellent care. Cremation has taken place. In respect of George’s wishes there shall be no formal service or visitation. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 2-5 pm at the Army/Navy/Air Force Veterans Unit. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation at 519-276-3322, London Health Sciences Foundation (Cancer Campaign) at 519-685-8409 or a charity of one’s choice. Donations may also be made through Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services at 519-271-5062.
