James Alexander Scott, April 26, 1929 - April 17, 2020
Born in Owen Sound to parents George and Margaret (Robson).

Jim and his wife Betty (Elizabeth) Green, who passed away October 2019, were married in Harrington Sept 26, 1953. Survived by a son Brian, Toronto; daughters Judy Matheson (Neil), Perth East and Barbara Persad, Stratford. Beloved grandpa of Flora Matheson (Matthew Levesque) Somerset, MA; Anne Matheson, Metchosin, BC; Margaret Matheson (Nicholas Krauskopf), London; Dyer Persad, Stratford; James Persad (Abbey Hall), Waterloo; Jared Persad (Jamie Williamson), Stratford. Jim leaves behind his brother Murray (Helen), Tara; sister Jean Davidson (Gerald), Owen Sound; sister-in-law Reta Green, Embro and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his son-in-law Dave Persad, brothers Donald and Kenneth (Mary Monteith), sisters-in-law Dorothy, Gwen, and Betty Scott, in-laws Jessie and Bill Davis, Margaret and Wilfred Weaver, Jack Green.

Jim learned the electrical trade from George, his father, rewiring farm buildings to electric from the Delco battery systems previously installed by George. He then worked in Kincardine and St. Marys as an electric serviceman and on a blind date met and fell in love with Betty. In 1953 they married and moved to Stratford where he worked at the P.U.C. as a serviceman and then a lineman.

Jim and his business partner opened Avon Electric Wholesale, which they operated successfully until selling to Ideal Supply in 1982. He spent his early retirement keeping busy with a Bed and Breakfast business near Mitchell. He loved to help his family and friends, he could fix almost anything and always liked to have a project on the go.

Dad was a kind man with a strong sense of fairness and an insatiable sweet tooth. His mantra was “If you have your health you have everything”. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or London Health Sciences Foundation directly or online through the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home / Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services at, or by calling 519-271-5062.

We are thankful to the caring staff at Cedarcroft for keeping dad safe in his final months.

Dear Judy:
I read about your Dad's passing on-line yesterday. This brought back a flood of memories when your Dad gave me a job which helped me get back on track. I will never forget the impact this had on my life. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
