Obituary for Richard Stephen Rigg

Richard Stephen Rigg, better known as Dick, age 93, of Stratford passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Saturday October 16, 2021.

Born in Niagara Falls, Dick was the only child of the late Richard and Violet (Rainer) Rigg. He attended Maple Street Public School, N.F.C.V.I., and graduated from McMaster University in 1951. He was employed by Ontario Hydro at hospitals in Niagara Falls, (1951-1955) and Cornwall (1955-1959). Graduating from the Canadian Hospital Association course in Hospital Organization and Management, he became the first Hospital Administrator at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital in 1959. In March 1963, he was appointed Assistant Administrator at the Stratford General Hospital. From 1968-1984, he taught high school at Stratford Central Secondary School, after which, he & Treva retired together in 1984. They began travelling, taking trips to Europe, several Caribbean cruises and became winter “Snowbirds” in Florida. He was an active member of Ontario Street Baptist Church.

Beloved husband of the late Treva Alelia (Beaumont) Rigg (2016), whom he married at North Bay on September 12, 1953. They had 63 beautiful years together and are now reunited and travelling together again. Dear father of Karen Chiasson (Joe) of London, and Rena Rigg (Tony Sunday) of Port Colborne. Loving grandfather of Athena Tolksdorf (Eric Fontaine) of Dalhousie Junction, New Brunswick, and Scott Tolksdorf (Laura Pellow) of Kitchener, and great-grandfather of Eathan Rigg Fontaine of Dalhousie Junction, NB.

Those who have gone before him are his parents and wife, his brothers-in-law Douglas Beaumont (1988), Donald Beaumont (2016), and sister-in-law Connie Beaumont (2021).

A private family celebration of life will be held at the James A Rutherford Funeral Home on Friday October 29, at 11 am with Rev. Franklin Morgan officiating. Due to personal work protocols, the family has found it necessary to limit those in attendance and adhere strictly to a double vaccination policy for those on the guest list. Apologies to those who will be unable to attend.

Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Cemetery, North Bay at a later date.
