Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce that our most beloved brother, Run Maluak Maguet, 23, passed on Saturday the 4th of July 2020.

Run will be missed by his mother and father Hellen Agok Manytil and Peter Maguet Dhel, his siblings Nyanagar, Nyanalath, Nyanhok, Apath, Amakou, Dhel, Terah, Nyandor, Mangar and Makur. Issack Mabor and Achienya.

He was born in Rumbek, Sudan on April 26, 1997. His family moved to Kenya in search of a better life abroad. The family waited in the United Nations refugee camp of Dadaab for fifteen years before having the chance to move to Canada. Run was 18 years old when the family arrived here and was diagnosed with a severe mental illness by the time he finished high school. Despite the challenges he faced, he was a good man, and a kind person who doted on his mother and liked having conversations with her. He always played with his siblings and was fiercely protective of his loved ones and gave them a feeling of safety and security in their new home.

Whenever Run made any money, he would send it all back to Sudan, to his relatives. His wish was to visit Sudan again in order to seek closure, and although he has not achieved his goals, we find solace knowing that he is back with the ancestors of the land that he left.
It was in the early hours of the morning, on Friday July 3, 2020, that Run took his own life. He was transferred to the hospital where he was kept alive artificially. Finally knowing there would be no quality of life for him, no way for him to come back into his normally good self, he was pronounced brain dead (legally dead) at 2pm on July 4, 2020 when all artificial care was discontinued.

Our family takes comfort in the fact that he is at peace and we thank the community for its extreme generosity and support.

A graveside service will be held this Wednesday July 8, 2020 at 11 am at Avondale Cemetery. 4 Avondale Ave, Stratford.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Maguet family through this GoFundMe that was so kindly set up for the family to get established in the beautiful city of Stratford. We are grateful.
