Vernon Duncan Gooding passed peacefully at Forest Heights, his Long Term Care Residence in Kitchener on Family Day, February 17, 2020 in his 97th year.

Born in Melanchton Township, Grey County, he was the son of Reverend Alonzo and Flossie Gooding (nee Duncan). He is survived by one sister, Eileen Jones.

Vern was pre-deceased by 3 sons: Gordon (1947), Rodney (1998), Eric (2009), 2 wives: Elizabeth (1991) and Ruth (2015) and siblings: Gordon Gooding, Eldon Gooding, Evelyn Milsted, Dorothy Winger, Dorine Doner
and Ruth Christilaw.

He was a loving and attentive father of: Gloria Campbell, Grant Gooding, Thomas Gooding, Janice Gooding, Garry Gooding and Ellen Higgins and daughter-in-laws: Marilyn Gooding, Nancye Gooding, Doris Gooding and Eva Gooding and son-in-laws: Sean Higgins and Michael Hill.

Vern very much appreciated the strong connection and support from Ruth's sons, David and Jeff Duncan,
their wives Ruth and Cheryl, and their children.

He was a proud and playful 'Poppa' to 28 Grandchildren - Suzi, Tara (Tara), Maya (Damien), Natalie (Scott), Blair (Kari), Xel (Laura), Nicole (Siobhan), Golden (Vicky), Danielle (Nolan), David (Emily), Scott, Jacqueline (Tom), Alexander, John (Kristin), Matthew, Lizzie
and Ali.

He was an adoring and admiring Great Grandfather to 12 Great Grandchildren: Thiabaud, Akira, Hannah, Chloe, Kipp, Owynne, Ella, Isaak, Eric, Graydon, Everly and Sterling.

Vern had an amazing life - as a child under 3 years, he was lost for 19 hours, overnight in the woods near Port Elgin with hundreds of residents turning out to search for him. He was a WW11 Veteran (POW among the first to return to Canada) and worked as a Farmer, Road Superintendent, School Board Secretary and Accountant. He coached hockey and baseball over many years. He was Team Owner of Milton Junior Flyers taking it from Junior C to Junior B Level. He volunteered with The Legion, The Lions Club, other community groups and committees.

Vern truly loved his family and friends. He loved projects, fishing, hunting and gardening. He loved and looked after his family and others. His family is comforted by awesome memories, significant modelling/mentoring and 'life lessons'. A great Legacy. So blessed to have him for so many years. And, he will surely be missed.

At his request Vern will be cremated and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Donations to honour his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice by calling Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services at 519-271-5062

My deepest sympathies on Vern's passing...I have many fond memories of Vern and Beth and the Gooding clan having grown up living beside them and then the car trips to Dundalk or them coming to the farm north of Gorrie. One of my greatest is when Vern enlisted me to paint ceramic hockey players for the Milton Flyers...he never warned me it would a whole teams worth... I spent many days and nights painting the gold and purple...each with their individual names and numbers!! Bless you Vern!
